The Georgian Hotel ($$$) 1415 Ocean Avenue. The Historic Georgian Hotel was a celebrity hideaway during the days of early Hollywood. During Prohibition, the art-deco hotel housed a popular speakeasy and is now rumored to be haunted by certain unearthly guests. The Georgian Hotel is walking distance from the Third Street Promenade, Palisades Park, Santa Monica beach and the Santa Monica Pier.

Hilton Santa Monica Hotel & Suites ($$$) 1707 4th Street. This hotel has 253 soundproofed suites with city or ocean views, separate bedrooms, sitting rooms with well-lit work desks, and minibars. The Doubletree Guest Suites Santa Monica features a soaring atrium showcased by glass blocks, mosaic tiles, marble-tiled floors and glass elevators. The hotel's onsite restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the mezzanine-level onsite bar provides a relaxing atmosphere to chat. Four blocks from the beach and three blocks from the Third Street Promenade. Business travelers will appreciate the hotel's proximity to Santa Monica Convention Center which is adjacent to the hotel. Hotel Shangri La ($$$) 1301 Ocean Avenue. located on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Built in 1939, the Hotel Shangri La Santa Monica's recent redesign invigorates its aesthetics of the past. In keeping with the Art Deco style, the hotel's all-white facade is complemented by floor-to-ceiling windows, curved corners and metal linings. The Shangri La Santa Monica restaurant serves gourmet cuisine while overlooking the pool and courtyard. The hotel includes a rooftop bar and lounge and a sidewalk cafe. The outdoor, rooftop pool is joined by lounge chairs, umbrellas and cabanas, and an exercise and yoga deck. Spa services are offered in the courtyard. Sea Blue Hotel ($$$) 1670 Ocean Avenue. (formerly Hotel California) One-half block from the beach via private walkway. One block from the Santa Monica Pier. Venice Beach boardwalk is within walking distance.

Santa Monica Motel ($$) 1515 Ocean Avenue. This motel only has a 1-star rating but it's in a great location and costs less than most others.

Marina del Rey (beach closest to LAX)
