Sheriff Robert G. Luna and the entire Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department would like to congratulate our 2024 Sheriff’s Communication Center Dispatcher of the Year, Isidora Pejić.

Isidora Pejić comes from a very unique background, and her family was happy to share their story with us. Many of us are familiar with the challenges that can arise in times of conflict. For Isidora, those challenges were not just headlines- they were the backdrop of her earliest years.

Both of Isidora‘s parents served as translators for the United Nations and its vital humanitarian efforts during the war in the former Yugoslavia. Their work allowed them to protect food and essential medical supplies, and assist with the distribution of these resources to those in desperate need.

Approximately 100,000 people were killed in the war, with millions of others displaced. The end of the war brought in the United Nations International Police Task Force (UNIPTF). Formed to monitor and support the rebuilding of Bosnia‘s police forces, the task force brought peace officers were all over the world into this complex crisis. One of these individuals, a Deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was partnered with a translator: Isidora‘s father. The two formed a fast friendship and worked together for a full year. The friendship soon extended to the whole family, and the Deputy became a welcome presence in their home in Brăko.

Isidora’s career with the Los Angeles County sheriffs department began in June 2014. In September 2015, she was hired at the Sheriff’s Communication Center.
